Jane Van Hooser located Mary A. Hopper born 10 Mar 1914 on line. She died in Henderson so she much have been sick and died while she was in the hospital. I located her burial location in the library's Webster County Cemetery Book Vol. II. She and her two husbands, John Thompson, Sr. and Cecil Watts are buried in the I.O.O.F (Odd Fellows)Cemetery in Clay County, KY. I have a photo of the HOPPER tombstone in the cemetery. It is a large plot with only on other marker with the name of BAIN. Bain was a brother to William Talton, Mary's and my father Herman's father.

Susan birth is given as 1857 rather than 1854 which was listed on this site. She was buried on 30 Nov 1916 which means she passed aways a day two before the 30th. She was the daughter of Lawson Stills and Amanda Gray from Lyon Co. KY. She was probably born in Lyon County. Amanda Gray is a great grand daughter of Garrett B. Gray, Sr. an ARW patriot whose son Garret, Jr. was a soldier. Her father was Garret, Jr. son James. Her mother was Rosanna Cannon all from present day Lyon Co. KY. Lyon Co was part of Caldwell Co. unitl 1854. They were given land on McNabb Creek in Lyon County for their service. Debbie Atheley a Nashville, TN has posted the Gray family history online.

gives John Hopper b 1856 d 1915 and buried in the Old Blackwell Cemetery, Clay, KY. With date listed here as abt 1858 and census reports given his age that coincides with that date is can be assumed that the cemetery date be an approximate date also. Page 42 lists William Talton as 'Talton' is also buried in Old Blackwell off Highway 109 outside of Clay, KY.
David Hopper b. 15 Feb 1881 d. 22 Dec 1909 is listed on page 42.

I remember as a child the death of Uncle John. I would have been 9 years old. I also remember spending some time with Aunt Mary and Uncle John on the farm, in what seemed to me at the time, the 'deep woods'. I have a very vivid recollection of the rain one night as it fell on the small home's tin roof. It was so very soothing. John became ill with blood poisoning and died. I also remember going over to visit and all our family going over to Evansville, Indiana to the zoo. It was a rainy day and the radio announcers were talking about the death of Hank Williams, Sr. who had died in January of 1953. They were playing Williams' songs. I cannot remember why?

I have been to the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay, KY and I have a photo of the HOPPER Tombstone. A large area of unmarked graves surrounds the huge marker with the exception of BAIN b 1886 bur 15 Sep 1918. I have a photo of this marker; however the Cemetery Book gives the spelling as Baine?

One Hundred Days' Volunteers. -- Indiana's quota of 100 days'
troops was eight regiments, numbering consecutively from the

They were used largely for guard duty and in garrisoning
necessary points, relieving veteran troops for active field
work in the important campaigns of 1864. These troops were to
perform such duty as might be required of them in any state,
and were to be armed, subsisted, clothed and paid by the
United States.

Upon reaching Nashville they were assigned to railroad guard
duty along the lines of the Nashville & Chattanooga, Tennessee
& Alabama, and Memphis & Charleston railroads. They were kept
constantly engaged in this work until the latter part of Aug.,
1864, serving beyond the time for which they had enlisted,
keeping Sherman's lines of communication open for the
transportation of supplies to his army.
