PIONEER CITIZEN, CONFEDERATE SOLDIER DIES IN VAN ALSTYNE
Benjamin Wade Hampton, aged 72 years, a pioneer citizen of North Texas and an exconfederate soldier died at his home in Van Alstyne this morning at 9:30 o'clock.

His wife Mrs. Mary Peveler Hampton, to whom he was married in 1849, his two sons, Robert and Malley Hampton, of Sanger, Denton County, his daughter, Mrs. Judge Don A. Bliss of this city, were present.

Judge Bliss went down last evening but on account of the progress of the Smith case here had to return to Sherman. Mr. James Shurey of this city and his wife. daughter of Judge and mrs. Bliss were present and so was his brother, Nathan Hampton of Pilot Grove, Grayson.

The deceased was a native of Kentucky, but came to Texas about sixty years ago and settled in Blue prairie, a few miles north of Honey Grove.

He located near Van Alstyne about twenty years ago and has resided in that town almost continously since then.

In his early boyhood he joined the Methodist church and has lived a consistent member ever since. He was a Mason but by request the burial will be conducted at the church tomorrow morning and will be conducted by Rev. T.L. Smith, the pastor.

He was a man enjoying the full confidence, love and respect of his neighbors and his death has caused a gloom to settle over the entire community.
